Station Insight

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 July 2026

Station Insight is designed to be private by default. We collect no personal data, run no analytics or tracking, and operate no servers of our own. The only network traffic the app makes goes directly from your device to your weather platform's own service, using the API key you provide.

The short version

What the app handles, and where it stays

Station Insight displays live readings from a personal weather station you already own, using an account and API key you already have with that platform (currently Ambient Weather, with more platforms planned):

We never receive any of this. It is not uploaded, backed up to us, or transmitted off your device by the app.

Network use

To fetch your station's live readings, the app connects directly to your weather platform's own cloud service using the API key you supply. That connection is between your device and your weather platform — it does not pass through any server we operate, and we never see your key or your readings. As support for additional platforms is added, each will connect the same way: directly, using your own credentials.

The Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets refresh periodically in the background; refreshing triggers this same direct request so the widget can show current data.

Diagnostics

The app contains no analytics or crash-reporting of its own. If you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with developers in your device's system settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash and usage statistics through App Store Connect. This is controlled by you in your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements and is governed by Apple's privacy terms, not ours.

Your control over your data

Third-party components

The app uses SwiftyWeatherKit, an open-source library, to communicate with your weather platform's API. It runs on your device and does not transmit your data to anyone except the weather platform you've configured.

Children's privacy

Station Insight collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Because the app collects no data, any changes are expected to be clarifications rather than changes to what we collect (which is nothing).
